Young Voices

The Young Voices are a cohort of 10 artists between the ages of 18 and 26 who are brought into the Festival folds for 12 months. They gain behind-the-scenes access to the staff and operations of Perth Festival, free tickets to performances, and chances to feed-back their thoughts and opinions to ensure that young people have a chance to shape their state Festival. Having seen it being created first-hand, they will finish their tenure at the launch of the 2024 Festival and pass the baton to a fresh cohort of 10 new Young Voices.

Each participant was nominated by a local arts organisation.
Read on to meet our inaugural 2022 – 2023 participants!

I am a Nigerian award-winning Creative Director, Visual Artist, Writer, Community Curator & Performer who is the founder and lead creative of TAB Family. Previously living and working in Nigeria and the UK, I am now based in Boorloo (Perth). As a creative artist, alongside my alter-ego, 'Yoruba Daddy', I am about capturing moments and memories through words, images and sounds. Whether it be photography, filmmaking, music-making, designing, live performances or writing. I am an all-around multidisciplinary creative, expressing myself through these different art forms and genres.

Emmett Aster

they/he
Riptide Youth Theatre Company

I am a Mandurah based creative who has been working freelance in various art positions since I was a teenager, including music, photography, poetry, and theatre. Now, I am particularly passionate about the way in which these artistic practices can be fused in order to create multi-modal theatre that incorporates all of these practices. I have performed, sound-designed, produced, and written for theatre, and am currently the artistic director of ‘perhaps, a theatre company.’, an emerging theatre company in Mandurah that seeks to blur the lines that separates theatre from other art forms to tell human stories, especially the stories of those who exist on the margins. I also recently received the Next Level Grant to develop my artistic practice in this area!

After making a change in career pathways, I entered the Perth Art scene just over a year ago. Since then I have been involved with several galleries across the Perth area. I currently work Front of House in the gallery spaces for both Mundaring Arts and Midland Junction Arts Centre, as well as being employed as the exhibition installer for Ellenbrook Arts.
